No one doubts that SLT’s temporary move to the Stanley Halls is an exciting time of change. While those of us helping to run the company endeavour to offer the opportunities that the Old Fire Station gave us – not least, a varied programme of productions and social events – we appreciate that many members are keen to embrace the new.
As we get used to our new home, SLT is launching an initiative to establish fertile ground for new writing. We are now inviting submissions of any work, from 5-minute sketches to full-length plays, at any stage of development. All scripts and treatments will be read and considered, with the aim of offering support at various levels. This could take the form of editorial advice, social readings or rehearsed readings with an audience.
Operating year-round, this is a separate process from the Theatre Committee’s annual season selection (typically in July for the following calendar year), although work developed in this way by SLT may form part of our season too. The second show in April is earmarked for new writing, with no format set. Whether it ends up being a regular 5-night run or a showcase of short pieces, or a series of site-specific performances on different nights, is up to you. Let your imagination run free. I’ll be taking submissions for the April slot until December 31, 2015.
If you have any questions, do speak me in person (Dave Hollander) or send your submissions using the button below.
