About South London Theatre and London Panto

The South London Theatre is a large, well-established, repertory-style non-professional theatre based in West Norwood, south east London and a member of the Little Theatre Guild of Great Britain. The theatre was founded in 1967 in an old Victorian fire station and has been thriving ever since. We operate as a members' club and are therefore always keen to attract new faces to our organisation.

We run two theatre spaces, called the Bell Theatre and Prompt Corner. The Bell Theatre is a traditional style proscenium arch theatre seating 96 and Prompt Corner is a flexible studio space seating between 30 and 60 people.

Our aim is to produce 22 shows per year in the two theatre spaces and we are always on the lookout for new members to help us achieve this.

We also aim to provide as much variety as possible, with shows ranging from Shakespeare and historical plays, to modern comedies and new writing, with the odd musical or pantomime in between. All aspects of each production are run by the members themselves, so there is plenty of opportunity for everyone, not just on the stage, but behind the scenes, learning about lighting, sound, stage management and directing. There is also a need for members to man the box office, front of house and the members' club bar.

We produce an annual pantomime or Christmas show - with over 10,000 costumes in stock and a big budget, our pantos are always well received and reviewed. This year's show - A Christmas Carol - should be our best to date!

A Magical Christmas Story For All The Family!

South London Theatre (SLT) presents A Christmas Carol.

Directed by Maria Bates and Jenny Gammon, this year's Christmas show
promises to be the biggest and most lavish production at SLT to date, with over 30 children and 30 adults cast in this sumptuous seasonal spectacular.

Crammed full with special effects (including magical portraits that come to life) and featuring a roaming band of musicians playing period instruments, the show guarantees a rollercoaster ride of ghosts, ghouls and superior season
al frivolity.

'For many children (and adults) a Christmas show or pantomime is their first introduction to the theatre,' says co-director, Maria Bates. 'We want to make that first visit as magical and memorable as possible. Expect the amazing and get ready for the fantastical!'

'We're also sticking very closely to its Victorian roots,' says Jenny
Gammon. 'All the sound effects are produced live by the musicians. It will be really spooky!'

With sumptuous period costumes by Heather French and stunning 'chocolate box' sets by Hazel Hindle, be prepared to go back in time for a traditional Victorian Christmas treat you will never forget!

ABOUT THE SHOW

Ebenezer Scrooge has lost his only friend and business partner, Jacob
Marley. Seven years have passed since Marley's Christmas death and Scrooge has not changed a bit. He still refuses to give to the poor, he still only grudgingly gives his employee Bob Cratchit Christmas day off, and he still refuses his nephew's offer of Christmas dinner. He dismisses the whole holiday as "Humbug."

But, on this particular Christmas Eve, four ghosts visit his dreary home and these bizarre encounters bring about a chain of events that will take Scrooge on a life-changing journey through his past, present and future...
