The Mayor of London has launched a competition for London boroughs to bid for a Year of Culture. The competition will fund a game changing cultural programme. The winning Borough will receive over £1million funding to stage a programme of world class cultural events and initiatives.
Two winning boroughs will be named London Borough of Culture, one in 2019 and one in 2020. SLT attended the launch of Lambeth’s bid and we are excited about their plans.
SLT is backing Lambeth’s bid and you can help Lambeth win.
On the 1st December, Lambeth will submit a bid to the Mayor of London, competing for the London Borough of Culture title for 2019 or 2020.
Lambeth’s bid will celebrate the borough’s proud history of alternative and original thought. It will also look to the future, using culture to inspire and tackle the major social challenges faced by Lambeth and London today.
By submitting an idea, you can help to shape a remarkable London Borough of Culture bid that will benefit communities across the borough. Let’s create a future that’s inspired by our roots and driven by our imaginations.
SLT is backing Lambeth’s bid and we have submitted our own ideas. We want to light beacons across Lambeth marking areas of heritage and culture. We think West Norwood has a lot to offer culturally and we can imagine one of the beacons on our new theatre building.
Head over to www.ourlambeth.london and join the bid. Submit your ideas for events, activities or resources you would like to see in the Borough. Perhaps you know a great piece of hidden Lambeth history that should be highlighted and can help win the bid.
So tell your neighbours, your friends at your after work fitness classes, your work colleagues and your friends down the local and spread the word that Lambeth needs its residents, their ideas and their creativity.
