A Christmas Carol

by Charles Dickens, adapted for the stage by Neil Bartlett
Director: Mark Ireson

Performances:    December 12-21, 2019 (including three matinees)
First rehearsal: October 13, 2019

The elderly miser Ebenezer Scrooge is visited by the ghost of his former business partner Jacob Marley and the spirits of Christmases Past, Present and Yet To Come. After their visits, Scrooge is transformed into a kinder, gentler man. The Cratchits, Fezziwigs, Ignorance and Want, humbug, and the largest turkey in the shop are all present and correct, and (spoiler alert) Tiny Tim DOES NOT DIE. Using only Dickens’ own words, this adaptation of the much-loved Christmas classic stays true to the original ghost story and its deeply moral core.

I’m looking for an ensemble of eight versatile actors of any and all ages and genders. One will play Scrooge, while the others each play multiple roles, create sound effects, sing carols and so much more. I’m particularly keen to see people who have skills in puppetry and other talents that can add something spectacular. The play contains some singing, but this is not a piece of musical theatre – I’m looking for actors who can sing, and enthusiasm is more important than anything. The actor playing Martha Cratchit sings the first verse of Once in Royal David’s City (under the action, not as a standalone solo) and the whole company will sing a variety of bits and pieces from well known carols.

Any questions please email the director, Mark.
