by Tom Basden after Fyodor Dostoyevsky
Director: Bryon Fear
Performances: May 23 – 27, 2017
First Rehearsal: April 2, 2017
Ivan is a struggling actor who hasn’t yet achieved the recognition he feels he deserves. But that’s all about to change when, one afternoon at the zoo with his friend Zack, he is swallowed whole by a crocodile.
Based on Dostoyevsky’s short story, The Crocodile is a ferociously funny, eye-poppingly theatrical play about art, animals and what happens when you try to take on the system from within … a crocodile.
Cast: 2 Men, 1 Woman, 1 Other
Ivan Matveitch (30s) – A jobbing actor who loves himself more than his audiences do. He believes himself to be anti-establishment.
Zack (30s) – Ivan’s long suffering best friend.
Anya (30s) – Zack’s girlfriend and Ivan’s ex-girlfriend. Feisty and somewhat fickle.
Mr Popov (no specific age) – This actor must be very versatile (male or female) as they must play a total of 9 characters (Zlobin, Sasha, Andrew, Mr Poborsky, Dimitr, Waiter, Protestor,Baron Bogolepov, TsarAlexander II)
Ages are approximate – I am prepared to age up (or down) characters. Casting will very much be affected by a strong 4 piece ensemble that have a great dynamic together.
