The Ladykillers

by Graham Linehan
Director: Charlotte Benstead

Performances:    April 30-May 4, 2019
First rehearsal: February 24, 2019

We are delighted to be performing The Ladykillers. Adapted from the 1956 award-winning film, the show promises to deliver some epic comedy moments as a bunch of hardened criminals turn on each other and get outwitted by an innocent old lady. The show is fast paced and offers the chance to perform in a great ensemble.

Rehearsals will be Wednesdays and Fridays from 8pm-10pm and Sundays from 2pm-6pm. Please note, the get-in weekend is Good Friday–Easter Sunday so if you are planning on being away for the Easter holiday, we will not be able to cast you.

Please let us know you are coming 48 hours in advance if you can, and please state if you have a role preference. Please come prepared to play with props and do some movement.

The Gang – Auditions Sunday January 27, 11am

Marcus (M – 40s–50s) The leader of the gang. Experienced and clever criminal. Superior.
Major Courtney (M – 60-plus) Skilled conman. Nervous disposition. Air of respectability. Ex-military.
Harry (M – 20s) Young spiv type with a penchant for amphetamines, a skilled pickpocket and thief. Streetwise, savvy.
Louis (M – 30s-40s) Exotic psychopath. Deeply troubled with a short fuse. The script states he is Romanian. Other accents considered!
One Round (M – 40s-50s) Daft. Punch-drunk ex-boxer. The muscle with a soft side. Always putting his foot in it. Physically big.

Others – Auditions Monday January 28, 7.30pm

Constable McDonald (any age and either sex) Naive and patient with the aged Mrs Wilberforce but probably quite lazy.
Mrs Wilberforce (F – 60-plus) A respectable and honest widow, if a little insecure. Knows right from wrong. She is not a great judge of character and can be quite gullible.
Mrs Tromleyton (F – 60-plus) Supposed friend of Mrs Wilberforce. A snob.
Ensemble There is also a non-speaking ensemble of up to 10 women – we will not be auditioning specifically for these parts this weekend. We would like these performers to be able to help with stage management for the show. If you are interested in helping and appearing costumed in one scene, please email the director. It will be a lot of fun. You will be required for the run-up week and performance week only.

Any questions please email the director, Charlotte.
