Fundraisers Manual – Part 1

Putting the FUN  in Fundraising !   Part 1 – House Party I was delighted to be invited to a house party with a difference. 15 of us were treated to an exclusive restaurant experience in one of our members front rooms. There were no prices on the menu, we were fed and asked to pay what we thought the meal was worth.  The guests got to eat, drink and be merry, while the host got to show off his […]

Man From Earth – An Introduction

Director Bob Callender gives us an intriguing preview of his show, which plays in the Upper Hall Tuesday, February 28 – Saturday, March 4. No, I didn’t understand the first bit either, but I’m still going along to see it… It’s rare that the SLT stages any science fiction, and it’s not hard to see why. Chaz must have spent literally days building brand new anti-matter capacitors for our plasma blasters. But for us the biggest challenge was the scene […]

Looking for the Ghost of Christmas Past Yet to Come!

The SLT Christmas show needs YOU.      To submit.     Something good. Theatre Committee are now welcoming submissions for a Christmas show, to be performed at Stanley Halls. Although we hope that the Old Fire Station building works will be completed by this time, the building will not be ready to stage productions. So, following the success of previous seasonal exploits at the Halls we intend to stage another Christmas extravaganza there. We are welcoming submissions for pantomimes, musicals, […]

Restoration Update: Critical Fundraising News

As we go into what we hope is the last 10 months of the restoration and build of the Old Fire Station in West Norwood, we can reveal the final amount we need to raise to complete the works. SLT has so far managed to raise over 2 million pounds with the help of the Heritage Lottery Fund but to fully restore the exterior and all five interior floors we have a deficit of £110,000. As we reported on August 5, 2016 when we lost […]

Little Light: The Director’s View

Jason Salmon talks about directing Little Light by Alice Birch which opens next week. This is the second Alice Birch play you’ve directed. What draws you to her work? There are several things, the first being how she writes the characters. I find that regardless of the subject of the play, all the characters feel very real; they each have traits that I see in me or those around me which instantly makes me connect with and relate to them. I […]

SLT Turns 50 Today!!

According to a piece found in the 1974 January Bar & Social News section of that month’s newsletter, SLT had its 7th birthday on January 26th. That means SLT turns 50 … today. 1967 was the year of our first production The Alchemist by Ben Jonson. Performances ran from October 30 – November 4. For SLT, 1967 is an historic year and we will be celebrating our 50 years over the next 12 months with several socials, 50th anniversary merchandise and the […]

Casting Announcement: Dancing At Lughnasa

Lisa Thomas announces her cast for Dancing at Lughnasa: “I’m delighted to announce the cast for our late March show, Dancing at Lughnasa by Brian Friel. Some very strong people auditioned and I was able to cast a couple of genuine Irish actors (though none from Donegal, where the play is set) and several others who have ‘proved their Irish’ in a range of other plays. This lyrical tale of five Donegal sisters and the events of the summer of 1936 […]
