Thank You – From The Cast Of Jack

It’s an SLT tradition of doing a cast collection during each run to buy a small gift for all the people who have helped stage a show such as the Director, Assistant Director, Backstage Crew, Set Builders & Painters, Wardrobe team etc. The cast of our last production Jack decided to do something different on this occasion: The cast of Jack would like to thank everyone who contributed to staging and keeping this year’s Christmas show running. In your honour, […]

Casting Announcement: Little Light

Jason Salmon announces his cast for Little Light by Alice Birch, which includes three new members to SLT: Firstly a big thank you to everybody that came along to the auditions. There was such an array of talent on display which was wonderful to see and made the decision process extremely difficult. Now it’s completed I’m delighted to have cast 4 wonderful actors – a great mix of established and new members – who I’ve no doubt will do an […]

Restoration Project Update – December 2016

The restoration of the Old Fire Station in West Norwood is progressing with continued momentum with many noticeable changes to the building’s structure taking place in the past month, with many more structural changes set to take place in the coming weeks. As you can see in the video, a lot of recognisable features of the building’s interior are now gone, as the spaces on the ground and lower floors have now been stripped right back. Keep up to date with the progress […]

Hurry on down to Stanley Halls to catch one of the last 5 performances of Jack. Inside Croydon have this to say about our modern-day sequel to Jack and the Beanstalk: “An interesting twist to the tale … which makes a change from the tired old storyline.” “Had me dancing in the aisles!” “Worth taking the kids to, and a fraction of the price of West End tickets. Alan Buckman Retires From His Post At SLT

Let the 3rd of December 2016 go down in history as the day that the SLT loses one of it’s most prolific, multi-talented & committed members. We have the sad news to report that Alan Buckman will be leaving South London to enjoy his retirement in Grantham. A quick look at the SLT archive will show you just how much Alan contributed to the centre over decades. Everything from acting roles (78 to be precise!) to dialect coach, to writer, set design […]

A New Logo For A New Era

The South London Theatre – or rather the South London Theatre Centre as it was known when it was first set up in 1967 – has had a few logos over the years. Logos which have reflected the changing times, celebrated the club’s anniversaries and marked its longevity as a fixture of West Norwood. 2017 will mark SLT’s 50th year and to celebrate we will be creating a new logo for a new era. A logo that will be contemporary, effective across […]

Hoardings Get Eye-Popping Designs

Over the weekend the hoardings outside of the theatre were decorated with some street art. Many members of the community who saw the work in progress were concerned that the hoardings were being vandalised, but they were in fact being adorned with some eye-catching designs. Ash Contracting Ltd. who are in the process of restoring the building suggested to SLT that it might be a good idea to approach All City London, an organisation which lets artists know where there are permissible spaces where they can create […]

Jack: Christmas Extravaganza – What’s It All About?

Next week SLT stages ‘Jack’, a modern day fairytale sequel to Jack and the Beanstalk written by two of our members. Promising to be full of lots of panto fun and nonsense; it’s the perfect way to start the seasonal celebrations. We speak with Writer and Director Peter Stevens about the play. You’ve written Jack with Matthew Davies – how did you come up with the idea, and how did you work together? Pantomime is a British tradition, with its archetype […]
