Old Fire Station Restoration: Project Update

It was a massive blow to our restoration project when our initial contractors pulled out back in May within weeks of the building works to begin. SLT immediately rallied the troops and began a renewed fundraising push to raise an estimated shortfall of £150,000 to secure the future of our theatre.

At that time building contractors Ash Contracting Ltd, who had previously tendered for the project, were approached and a new period of negotiation began to formulate a new scheme of work that could be delivered within an adjusted project budget. This scheme of work was drafted between the contractors, SLT’s project manager and our architects Thomas Ford & Partners to be submitted to the Heritage Lottery for approval.

We are thrilled to announce that the HLF have agreed to the building works going ahead on the basis of a reduced scope of work on the first and second floors. The work taken out is mostly for alterations and decorations which could be fully or partially reinstated during building works with further fundraising receipts.

Whilst our funding shortfall will not delay the building works, we still have to raise the money to ensure completion of the project. You can read more about our fundraising push here, or you can donate to the project here.

A timetable for the building works is currently being drawn up but work is set to begin within a few months. Further details to follow shortly.
