South London pantomime auditioning for kids chorus

Have you got what it takes to strut the boards?

South London Theatre is auditioning children for its annual magical pantomime. This year's offering is Aladdin, a traditional pantomime with a few sneaky twists, written and directed by Stuart Draper.

Auditions: 11th August
Time: 10am to 3pm
Show: Alladin by Stuart Draper
Where: South London Theatre, West Norwood

Performances: 3rd to 16th December 2007

'We're looking for two sets of kids, aged between 7 and 16,' says Stuart. 'In all there will be about 40 children in the show, playing villagers, slaves, rats and genies.'

As usual the kids will get plenty to do on stage, with their own numbers to dance and sing. And this year's panto promises to be even bigger and brighter than the previous smash hits Sleeping Beauty, and Christmas Carol, with even more special effects and stage wizadry.

The auditions are on 11 August 2007 at South London Theatre, between 10am and 3pm. Parents/carers will need to call or email to book a slot.

Children should wear sensible comfortable clothing and trainers. Children under 16 must be accompanied by a chaperone.

Performances are 3rd to 16th December 2007. Rehearsals will be Mondays and Wednesdays, 6 to 7.30pm at South London Theatre, starting mid-September.

About South London Theatre

The South London Theatre is a large, well-established, repertory-style non-professional theatre based in West Norwood, south east London and a member of the Little Theatre Guild of Great Britain.

The theatre was founded in 1967 in an old Victorian fire station and has been thriving ever since. We operate as a members' club and are therefore always keen to attract new faces to our organisation. We run two theatre spaces, called the Bell Theatre and Prompt Corner. The Bell Theatre is a traditional style proscenium arch theatre seating 96 and Prompt Corner is a flexible studio space seating between 30 and 60 people. Our aim is to produce 22 shows per year in the two theatre spaces and we are always on the lookout for new members to help us achieve this.

We also aim to provide as much variety as possible, with shows ranging from Shakespeare and historical plays, to modern comedies and new writing, with the odd musical or pantomime in between. All aspects of each production are run by the members themselves, so there is plenty of opportunity for everyone, not just on the stage, but behind the scenes, learning about lighting, sound, stage management and directing.

There is also a need for members to man the box office, front of house and the members' club bar. We produce an annual pantomime - with over 10,000 costumes in stock and a big budget, our pantos are always well received and reviewed. This year's pantomime - Aladdin - should be our best to date!
