These four nights will have the Del Newman Band headlining with a show made up of rock classics from the late Sixties up to the present. The Del Newman band has a core group of session musicians with a number of vocalists, all studio experienced - Del Newman, Emma Saunders, Val Joyce and Rose Hart. (Emma is the daughter of Malcolm and Sharon Saunders, both of whom were long-standing SLT members before Malcolm's sad death a few years ago.)
The Del Newman Band has performed at SLT several times over the years ranging from presenting The Unforgiven, a dramatised musical about Pink Floyd (March 1996), being the house band in A Slice Of Saturday Night (March 98), to two rock and roll nights in 1998 and 1999.
The Del Newman band members are:-
Del Newman, vocals. Del has been involved in numerous projects, shows, and spent many years as a session singer in studios throughout Europe.
Bushell Montell, bass guitar. This guy is one of the best on the planet, he's played with some great musicians, virtually lives in recording studios, even sightreads music, not many people do that these days.
Jim Covington, guitar. Jim has played with lots of different bands and artistes, lots of tours, and spent seven years as a session player with the BBC working on radio plays, etc.
Tony Smy, drums. Tony has worked as a session player for a number of years, and has even worked on songs for the Eurovision Song Contest.
Lionel Monks, keyboards. Lionel is a well-known face at SLT and can often be heard tickling the ivories of the piano in Prompt Corner. This is your chance to finally see him showing off those skills onstage.
