This sharply written, faced paced and highly entertaining farce focuses on Aeneas Poskett, a Magistrate of a Police Court and upstanding pillar of the community. Unbeknownst to him, his new wife, unwilling to burden him with additional years, has decided to deduct five of her own and, because of this, is also passing her nineteen year old son as a fourteen year old. Completely taken in by this, Poskett decides to find the latter’s addiction to gambling and drinking dens almost charming and is unwittingly drawn into a mire of deception, lunacy and wrangles with the criminal justice system (something most magistrates tend to avoid). Chaos reigns supreme as bewildered relatives, guileless friends, astounded policemen and lusting servants are drawn into an ever escalating welter of confusion.
