This week SLT member Jeanette Hoile took the Old Fire Station on tour and gave a talk to the Phoenix Community Association in Crystal Palace about its many lives and fascinating heritage.
The talk, which ran for 45 minutes including some eager questions from the floor, went down a storm and many of the audience members were intrigued by the fire station and the South London Theatre which has saved the building with the help of the Heritage Lottery.
Jeanette, who is also the project coordinator of a Heritage Guide Book which documents the building’s heritage (researched, edited and designed by SLT members), was the perfect speaker, and was able to answer all the questions about the building’s 136-year history. Members of the PCA also wanted to know more about the theatre and its activities; they eagerly took flyers for our Christmas show, which opens next week, and asked to be kept informed of future productions.
Many thanks to Jeanette and Freda Daffern who organised the successful event.
