The Old Fire Station Needs You. Pt 2 – April 2018

Many of you will have attended our Youth Show, His Dark Materials, during March and will have had a preview of our wonderful new theatre space. Hurrah!

You’ll also have seen that much of the building remains unfinished and although next time you visit it shouldn’t look quite so incomplete; nevertheless because of budget limitations, we need to continue fundraising and much of the outstanding work needs to be done by us.

The shortfall in funding needed to complete the project means that our first and second floors have had minimal work done to them. They are particularly important as they are the floors that have rooms and spaces that we want to make available to the community and to also hire in order to sustain the building in the years ahead. In the coming months, after we reoccupy the building, we will need to do the work of completing these floors ourselves, a project we are calling Restoration Phase 2.

SLT’s membership boasts a lot of talented and skilled people but we would greatly appreciate some professional help and we are appealing to members of our community who may have skills that they can offer. In particular we need plasterers, carpenters, electricians and also decorators who can do skilled preparation work. Please email Chaz our general stage manager here with your contact details if you think you have skills that you are willing to offer.

For those of us who are not so skilled there will be loads of other ways we can help. Please come along from 11am onwards on Easter Monday, or on the weekend of 7/8 April from 10am to help – at the moment the builders are still in during the week so we’re having to roll up our sleeves on weekends only.  We’re particularly going to need help on the grand moving in weekend 14/15 April – in the spirit of Dunkirk, there will be lots of carloads going back and forth between Stanley Halls and West Norwood, but we’ll also need people at either end. Again, please let Chaz know if you can be one of them – thank you!
