Hot on the heels of the Fest Norwood shorts night, when we produced an evening of new writing, we’re delighted to announce Write Club, one of our Heritage Lottery-funded projects, which starts in November.
Write Club brings you An Introduction to Playwriting, a short 5-week course that will give you the tools for bringing your words to the stage.
This initiative is to encourage existing SLT members and our local community to unlock their storytelling potential through a regular group that will seek to inspire and encourage bringing new voices to the stage. The course is just the start, and beginners are welcome – you don’t need any experience.
It’s a tutor-led course by Guleraana, a professional playwright. Over the 5-week course you’ll explore plot, character creation, dialogue, dramatic action, staging and how to find inspiration through a series of exercises. You’ll be encouraged to share your work throughout the course and constructive feedback will be offered.
About the Tutor
Guleraana is a writer and creative facilitator. Her debut play Coconut premiered at Ovalhouse in April, co-produced by Ovalhouse and The Thelmas (a new writing company which she is part of), and was followed by a national tour, supported by In Good Company. Coconut earned her an OFFIE nomination for most promising playwright. She regularly writes for community and youth groups and has worked with organisations such as Almeida Theatre projects, AGE UK Westminster, Rightful Place Theatre, Peer Productions and currently Royal Exchange Theatre. As a facilitator she co-leads the London Playwriting Lab and The Southwark Playhouse’s Young Writers Group.
The course will take place at South London Theatre on:
Thursdays 15, 22, 29 November, 6 December & Wednesday 12 December
Course costs: £30 for non- members, £20 for full SLT members of SLT & £15 concessions
