Volunteer shout-out

Love your local theatre? Come and help us make it thrive!

We’re very lucky to have a brilliant band of dedicated volunteers who help to keep our box office, front of house and bar running smoothly, not to mention all the backstage work involved in a show – but we really do need to increase our volunteer pool, so if you have some time to spare, and as long as your’re a full member, we’d love for you to get involved…

We’ve succeeded in making the Old Fire Station Covid-secure and we’ve put in place zoning, new ways of working and cleaning regimes to make sure that all activities take place in a clean, socially-distanced environment, and don’t involve people mixing where they shouldn’t. We’ve been extra careful to make sure that things are safe for our volunteers as well as our audiences, and we’ll continue to review those procedures to make sure they’re working. So whether you’d like to get involved backstage, or with the bar, front of house or box office, you can be sure we’re looking out for your safety and to make your volunteering experience as rewarding as possible.

It’s fair to say that with the current regulations, the emphasis of all roles has changed somewhat, and in some ways they are much simpler. Many tasks have been removed or simplified to make volunteering safer and easier for people to do, such as removing cash handling and finishing earlier in the evening. Throughout, we’ve been carefully studying how to apply the Government’s guidance, and we’ll continue to do so if there are any changes to this. If you haven’t volunteered with us for a while, or you haven’t volunteered before, rest assured that there will be full training to show you the ropes and ensure that you can look after the audience and yourself.

In addition to these customer-facing roles, we’d also love to have more people stepping forward to get involved backstage, or operating sound and lighting. A new venture for us is live streaming, and we’re very keen to recruit budding camera and streaming operators. If you’ve no experience, don’t worry – we’ll ease you in as gently as possible and train you to acquire these new skills.

Perhaps you already have some skills you’d like to flex – like poster or programme design, web design or copywriting, or have social media experience. We need people to help support publicity and marketing too.

Thank you
