Have Your Say: SLT Members’ Consultation Survey Now Open

We’re excited to announce that we’re running a survey to consult members on a range of areas that make up what we do here at the South London Theatre.

We proudly have over 400 members, and we’re keen to hear your thoughts, ideas and insights into what makes this place tick and keep ticking over.

The last few years at SLT have seen some change. We did major renovation works a few years back, just in time for the pandemic to hit, which as we’ll remember, was disruptive and at times scary, to say the least.

Last year, we changed our governance structure, bringing together SLT and the Building Preservation Trust (BPT – the entity that looks after our building, the SLT Fire Station), creating a brand new board of trustees to oversee and look after both.

Since approving the new set-up and electing new trustees in September 2024, we’ve been looking at ways to think more holistically about the theatre we love. We’ve grown over the years, adjusted, and the world around us has shifted too.

We want to make sure we’re firming up what we do well, getting better at areas that need improvement, learning from the past and making us ready for the future. 

As we approach our 60th anniversary next year, we want SLT to not only continue but to thrive for another 60 years! For that we need more than just a steady ship, we need one that can sail with confidence into the future.

Fair. As the old Chinese proverb goes, a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. Our next single step is to ask you, our lovely members, what you think, what matters to you, what you want more of, less of, and anything in between.

As trustees, we have already been reviewing, thinking, reflecting on how best to bring things together and make us stronger, but now – we need you.

Open from 4th Jan to 1st Feb, the survey will give you a voice and kick off 2026 as a year of conversation – constructive, thoughtful, musing. 

We want to do more of this – to open up the conversation across our membership, with more surveys, discussions; SLT belongs to the members, so it’s our collective voices and hands that should shape it. 

Your responses, ideas and feedback will feed into our planning at a board level for supporting SLT over the next few years. Once the responses are in, we’ll compile and review these over the coming months, and share with you the trends and ideas that have come forward.

In the survey, we’ll ask about: 

• Your experiences as a member, and where we can improve
• Volunteering and getting involved
• Our productions, and opportunities to perform and support
• Where we could improve fundraising and generate more income
• Managing our heritage building, how we can better preserve, maintain and sustain 
• Our connections with the local community, outreach work
• How we govern the theatre and oversee it’s running
• How we communicate across SLT, where we can improve this
