Your theatre needs you!

Bring your skills and passion to bear in helping run SLT

Our amazing theatre is reliant on its member volunteers to keep running, and there are lots of rewarding ways to get involved. If you’ve ever wanted to try something new or bring your skills to our supportive theatre community then please consider one of the available roles below. All members are welcome, and we don’t want there to be any barriers to taking part.

  • Are you ace at admin? Do you love a spreadsheet? 
  • Are you a people person? Do you love networking and building relationships?
  • Do you have a specific technical skill – video editing, rigging and testing lights, or something else super cool?
  • Are you a tidier and sorter, who likes everything to be in a set place?
  • Are you excellent at Instagram and creating content?
  • Maybe you’d like to learn any of the above? We’d love to hear from you!

The following roles are currently available to all members – either as individuals or on a sharing basis. Please get in touch if you’d like to help.

 

 

Theatre Committee roles

 

Performance Rights coordinator

  • Research availability of performance rights for show submissions each season
  • Negotiate and procure rights as relevant

 

Rep & Pastoral Support coordinator

  • Recruit and train/brief reps for every show
  • Hold regular check-ins with them to ensure they are fulfilling their role
  • Act as a point of escalation/support for any issues arising with cast/crew members

 

Director support coordinator

  • Keep Directors Handbook Updated
  • Run regular (each season) support events for new directors
  • Be the point of contact for directors to the committee

 

Producer

  • Support bigger shows with budgeting, marketing and general coordination
  • Work with Admin Support to ensure rehearsals are all booked and help coordinate any schedule changes
  • Coordinate production meetings across the different functions and ensure all deadlines are met

 

Production Coordinator

  • Be the main liaison between TC and backstage team to ensure backstage roles are filled for each show
  • Build networks of of those with backstage expertise to help support shows as required
  • Recruit members with specialist skills (such as Fight Coordination, Intimacy Coordination) to be able to support productions as required.

Wardrobe roles

 

Admin support

  • Support with email enquiries about hires
  • Manage our database of hirers
  • Support with developing an online catalogue of costumes

Props roles

 

Props Assistant

  • Making sure everything is neat, tidy and safe in the props stores
  • Support with developing an online catalogue of props
  • Supporting Stage Managers and keeping track of where props are and which show is using them

Marketing & Comms roles

 

Social Media coordinator

  • Come up with mini social campaigns to support the timely promotion of our shows
  • Work with casts and directors to produce on-brand content
  • Post and monitor engagement on our social platforms

 

Website assistant

  • Help keep the website up to date accurately
  • Create and edit content accordingly, in an appropriate on-brand tone of voice
  • Respond quickly to requests when required

 

Newsletter, programme and mailing support

  • Gather appropriate content for newsletters, show programmes and emails
  • Write/edit content to meet deadlines
  • Format using set templates

 

Graphic designer

  • Create mood boards and designs for show posters
  • Adjust artwork for specific sizes and formats to fit SLT branding
  • Work with the Comms team on deadlines and formats

 

Video/Audio editor/creator

  • Film/record new footage of rehearsals or other events for promotion on social platforms
  • Edit footage into presentable formats
  • Work with archive footage/content to create new output for website content

Backstage & Technical roles

 

Production Technical Lead

  • Recruit and train sound and lighting designers.
  • Support members to become competent in:
  1. Rigging or suspending equipment (e.g. lights).
  2. Operating the lighting desk and Qlab
  3. Programming lighting, sound, and projection
  4. Maintaining technical equipment
  • Ensure the technical team and volunteers understand and follow safety standards.
  • Maintain a written technical specification of the venue.
  • Ensure technical equipment is maintained in a safe and tidy condition.

 

Set Build Team Leader

  • Recruit and train set Build Leads, who will:
  1. Ensure the safety of anyone involved in the get-in and get-out.
  2. Ensure any structures (e.g. flats, deck) are safe.
  3. Assess the competency of any scenery builders expected to work unsupervised and to advise as appropriate. 
  • Ensure volunteers and production crew keep the backstage area safe and tidy.
  • Coordinate and plan the maintenance and construction of new stock scenery.
  • Buy: shared paint, timber, tools, screws, and other relevant equipment.

 

Stage Management Lead 

  • Maintain the Stage Management Handbook. 
  • Ensure Stage Managers understand their roles and responsibilities during a production:
  1. Safety and well-being of the cast and crew.
  2. Responsible for managing risk in a production from get-in to get-out.
  • Maintenance and replacement of communication systems (e.g. Cans/Radios)
  • Work with the Props lead to ensure that all returned items are stored in the correct location and safely.

Membership roles

 

Membership volunteer

  • Help keep our largely automated and simple to use systems up to date with accurate member information
  • Assist in ensuring that our members are aware of and receive all their member benefits
  • Take a role in promoting the theatre to prospective new members – sharing your passion for SLT with others at Open Evenings and via publicity
