Summer Shorts – Get involved!

We’re looking to find directors as well as stage crew for this year’s Summer Shorts showcase.

Have you had some experience at SLT but are yet to try directing? Have you ever thought, I would have got an actor to do something differently while sitting in the audience? Do you feel you might have the creative vision to take words from a page and bring them to life in an impactful way? Or, perhaps you’re a previous director who didn’t submit for 2026, looking for an outlet for your directing talents. Whatever your directing motivation the Summer Shorts could be the opportunity you have been looking for.

We’re looking for a crowd of 10 directors to volunteer to bring the SLT short plays – currently being written – to the stage. If selected, you would be allocated (with consultation) one of our winning scripts to take on from rehearsals which will start May/June, through to the Summer Shorts show in mid-August, *without* the 3-times-a-week for 10 weeks commitment of a full SLT show. If you’re eager to get a taste of what to expect or just want to have a chat with the Shorts curating team, come to the table-read of shortlisted scripts, (open to all members) in the Members Bar on Monday 4 May, 2026 from 3pm.
