Still seeking a Christmas show for 2026
31 May 26
Calling all would-be directors who love a Christmassy show!
We’re calling out for a director to head up our Christmas show for 2026. This can be a Christmas-themed play or a traditional pantomime, but should be family oriented. This show will play over two weeks from 8–19 December with at least a couple of weekend matinees programmed in. Examples of Christmas shows since 2010 include:
- The Thwarting of Baron Bolligrew (play)
- Babes in the Wood (panto)
- Snow White (panto)
- Piper (panto based on the Pied Piper)
- The Flint Street Nativity (play)
- Oliver! (musical)
- Jack (panto based on Jack and the Beanstalk)
- The Snow Queen (panto)
- A Christmas Carol (play Neil Bartlett version)
- Grimm Tales (playlets Philip Pullmann based on the stories of the Brothers Grimm)
- Mirror, Mirror on the Wall (panto)
- Thumbelina (panto)
- Beauty and the Beast (play with music, Lucy Kirkwood and Katie Mitchell)
- The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (C. S. Lewis, adapted by Adrian Mitchell)
- Cinderella (musical Rodgers and Hammerstein)
It’s quite a broad spectrum and we’ve been lucky enough to have a number of pantos written by members. It’s a wonderful opportunity to get a lot of people involved and showcase the theatre to a wider audience.
If you’re a director with an idea for a show, please email theatrecommittee@southlondontheatre.co.uk as soon as possible. We look forward to hearing from you – with Christmas bells on!
