Detailed information from the Board of Trustee applicants.

Applicants are shown in the order that the applications were received.

The following appications have been received (in order of application):

Mark Bacon (Ordinary Director)

I am experienced senior civil servant with more than 30 year’s professional expertise in a range of Government Departments. I have experience with policy and strategy work, where it is important to identify a clear way forward or a set of objectives for an organisation so that day to day decisions can be guided by the outcome sought. That often means taking account of different perspectives and finding a solution that has broad support. As SLT seeks to identify its longer-term strategy, I think that this will be a helpful skillset.
I also have experience of working with governance and finance issues including transparent and clear decision-making, accountability, budget-setting, profitability and long-term economic sustainability. SLT has recently changed its Trustee group to provide a different focus for the charity and wishes to raise additional revenue so this experience in helping identify a viable way forward that will support that goal once agreed. I am practical and realistic about what can be achieved with limited resources.
I have a love of the theatre and go many times a year to see different productions so I recognise and value the role that SLT plays in the local community, in the development of its members and also the youth group. I am interested in understanding whether we can do more here, including using theatre as therapy and in community integration.

Gareth Milton (Commercial Director)

I have been a director of SLTC since 2020, and took on the new Commercial Director role acting for both SLTC and SLT-BPT in September of 2024. With a background in project / programme management, I have strong organisational and risk management skills. I believe that if we can get the maintenance plans, budget control and risk management processes in a good shape, the role will be much easier for someone else to pick up in the future.

Ed Smith (Ordinary Director)

My professional career has been within the Media industry. I am currently the Business Development Manager for a film studio where I am restructuring the sales department as well as introducing new initiatives to generate new business. My role, and therefore the skills I have developed, is all around effective use of resources and creating the workflows and implementing them within the business. There are many other parts to the role, including necessary soft-skills, I feel that are very translatable into the role of a trustee. Prior to this, I was at an independent production company managing multiple departments of various budget sizes and resource allocation.

I am also an active member of the theatre having been in 2 shows and cast in a 3rd. I have plans to commit more of my time towards SLT and becoming a trustee with vested interest in its success feels appropriate.

Simon Gleisner (Theatre Director)

I have been a Trustee and Director of SLT since 2018, firstly on Theatre Committee and then as Chairman for five years, before taking on the Theatre Director role last year as part of our restructure. I was part of the team who managed the recent restructure through and believe the changes were essential as the organisation grows and develops. I want to make sure the changes and new structure work for the best.
