Building update: Props Store

29 Apr 26

SLT has received some very kind donations in memory of Kay George, and the Executive Committee has identified a small project that they feel would appropriately honour Kay’s memory. Kay was a committed stage manager and along with Carole Ironside, was instrumental in keeping our Prop Stores well maintained.

Over the last few years it’s become increasingly difficult to access the main props store as the current door is situated inside the Fly Loft – a very busy room! We would like to reinstate the original position of the door so that we can access the store from the corridor, rather than having to interrupt rehearsals and activities in the Fly Loft. The current door was created in
the 1960’s, so we would also be returning the building to its original layout.

Once we have better access, not only will members be able to access the store more easily, but we will be able to expand opportunities to hire out props and raise some additional revenue. We are hoping to raise a total of £5000 to:

    • Open up the original door into the corridor
    • Brick up the 1960s door (from Fly Loft to store)
    • Move the radiator from the corridor into the props store
    • Decorate as much as possible
    • Install a small plaque in Kay’s memory
  •

Here’s a plan and indicative pictures of where the door would go – as you can see from the first photo, the original lintel has already been exposed:

Plan for movement of a door from one room into a corridor

Picute showing potential placement of a new door position
