Building Update September 2026

It has been a little while since we updated everyone on the work undertaken to maintain the building, here is the latest update.

Front door update

As anyone who has visited the building during the summer will know, the work on the front doors was  finally completed just in time for the May AGM.  Since then had another coat of paint applied as the final coat was delayed until the better weather.  Hopefully you will all agree that the doors are looking so much better.

The Yard

The other major job that was undertaken earlier in the year was to remove and repair the retaining wall that was failing badly following the wet weather we had in the later part of 2025 and early 2026.

Following this work Jo Boniface has been leading some work with the help of a local community group Open Orchard Project to improve the remaining soil and do some planting.  Do let Jo know if you want to get involved.

Update from Edward Smith on Theatre Fund and Grants

One of the trustees, Edward Smith has been working hard on funding applications.

We have also successfully submitted an application for planning permission as part of our bid for £72k from Arts Council. This project would allow us to reconfigure the stairwell leading down to the bar and add an access route out into the yard without needing to go through backstage. This will be a significant upgrade allowing more performance and enjoyment for our members!
We have also submitted an expression of interest for £140k to another grant to completely update and upgrade all theatre equipment. This is a fantastic opportunity so hopefully we are successful – we will hear back from this later this year. Works would start April 2027 if we are successful.

What’s next?
