Casting: Beyond Therapy

Casting Beyond Therapy made me feel like I needed therapy! Not really, but my goodness what a talented group we had presented to us - I credit SLT for its platform and my casting assistants (Paushali Banik, Fredrick Gustafsson and Harriett Jagger) for spreading the word about this production. My theatrical directorial debut was originally meant for another project which we couldn't progress due to licensing issues, so Beyond Therapy sprang to mind and now that the company has been formed I can't believe I didn’t pitch Christopher Durang’s work in the first place!

The show is a series of duologues until the finale of Act One, and forms the finale of the whole show, so the combinations and dynamics between each pair were what dictated the final decision. I felt like a chef attempting to pair different people together in order to host the best dinner party we can invite everyone to - and I think I have accomplished just that. A pinch of Paolo’s passion, a sprinkle of Shalvi and her sensitivity, Gavin’s generosity, a ladle of Lucas’ experience and a mash of Marysia’s wit whipped up with Michael’s intellect - throw in a bit of me and I think we'll make something Durang - and we - would be very proud of.
