Casting: Gaslight

It’s always exciting seeing how many talented and hard-working performers sign up for SLT auditions, but this makes the final decisions even more difficult. To tell the story of Gaslight properly – we knew we had to faithfully recreate the world of this Victorian thriller. Despite this play being almost 100 years old, the issues Patrick Hamilton was writing about are still relevant today. This is the story of a woman finding her freedom from an abusive criminal who has conned his way through life.

Due to the sensitive topic and the challenging relationships, finding the right chemistry between the performers was crucial. The search for the cast went far and wide and we auditioned around 70 performers. Many thanks to the auditionees who attended multiple auditions and chemistry reads – it’s always difficult making that final decision and I hope to see many of you in future SLT productions. And special thanks to assistant director Gabi Andronico and the SLT team who made
sure things ran smoothly.
