Every story starts somewhere. It’s the early hours of the morning and Danny’s the last straggler at Laura’s party. The flat’s in a mess. And so are they. One more drink?

Two lonely, damaged people come together at the end of a party. Over the course of an hour and a half, we follow their first teetering steps towards a relationship. Funny, poignant and moving, this is a brilliant, real-time play about risking it all and wearing your heart on your sleeve.

Director: Simon Gleisner

Performances: 16 - 20 May 2023

First Rehearsal: 5 Mar 2023

Characters:

Laura: 35-45 - Laura has been having a house party to celebrate moving into her new flat. At first, she seems capable and organised - a managing director, home owner and passionate Corbynite. She certainly comes across as the more assured of the two, constantly taking the initiative, but her slightly sozzled state is hiding her real feelings.

David: 35-45 - David is the last guest standing. A cocky Essex boy who has a bit of a “belly”, is called a bit of a Tory-boy by his nan and is living at home with his mum. He clearly fancies Laura, but his bullish exterior is a deflection from his shyness and buried pain.

This is a play for the two actors to really get their teeth into. Played out in real time, the play is entirely about the relationship between them, and how it evolves as they (and we) discover more about them.

Both characters are of a similar age, which could be anywhere between about 35 and 45. The important point is that they have histories, have lived, and are at a point to consider starting again.

Both actors will need to be comfortable with semi-nudity - the characters undress to their underwear.

Rehearsals will be on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 8pm and Sundays from 1pm-4.30pm.
