Set entirely among London's gay community in the mid-1980s against the background of the mounting AIDS crisis, My Night With Reg follows the ups and downs of a circle of gay friends over a period of several years.
One of the group, the Reg mentioned in the title, is not a character in the play but the whole plot revolves around his apparent promiscuity and the chain reaction of deception and betrayal set off by it.

Characters:
Guy: (The nice one), in whose new flat the play is set. He is the loveliest of people who is hiding a lifelong crush on John. Mid-30s.
John: (The handsome one), self-centred, the audience won’t like him. He is also having an affair with Reg, the partner of his best friend. Mid-30s.
Daniel: (The fun one) – confident, a little flamboyant. Suspects his partner Reg is unfaithful but doesn’t want to know. Mid-30s.
Eric: (He has a regional accent - playing age 18-25) A young man who works in the local pub and is befriended by Guy. When the play opens, he is painting Guy’s conservatory. This is a beautiful part, we see him grow as a person and become a strong man with a beautiful heart.
Bernie: Older than the others (flexible on age) – irritating, but kind. The audience will like him but find him annoying. He has slept with Reg and is racked with guilt.
Bennie: Bernie’s younger partner, the quiet sexy type. He has also slept with Reg, doesn’t feel guilty but is worried when we discover Reg has died from AIDS.
Guy, John and Daniel met and have been friends since university. They are about the same age, approximately mid 30s.
The play is set in the 1980s and therefore all the characters will be clean-shaven, with the possible exception of Bernie and Bennie. Please come to the audition clean-shaven or with only stubble.

Nudity
The script states that John and Eric appear naked in the last scene. This will be up for discussion during rehearsals although they will appear semi clothed if not naked.
Kissing: There is a slightly prolonged kiss between John and Bennie. This is a plot point and a beautiful moment.
Seduction scene: During the final scene John and Eric are involved in a seduction scene which includes touching but no kissing.
Rehearsals will be on Wednesday and Friday evenings from 7.45pm and Sundays from 4.30-8.00pm, beginning at the end of March.
