Dickie Mainwaring, a dashing young son of the landed gentry, brings home his bride to be - Tilly Welwyn (of Bloomsbury). But will her family be good enough for the swanky purse-proud Mainwarings? Or will their embarrassing grandma, violently demented lodgers and the theatrically challenged bailiff who’s pretending to be their butler put the kibosh on the whole enterprise?
A romantic comedy, Tilly of Bloomsbury was a West End smash between the wars, running for several years from 1918. It was filmed three times up to the 1940s but hasn’t been out much since then. So we’re going to dust it off, starch its petticoats and shove it out blinking under the lights. Will it sparkle?
This was the first show performed in the Old Fire Station when it was taken over as St Luke's Church Hall in the 1920s. This run will be a 100th anniversary of sorts.
