Berkoff’s East, A Director’s View

Director Kelly-Kim Cranstoun talks about her SLT directorial debut East. Set in the East End in the late 1960s, the play features the London of Berkoff’s own adolescence. What are the play’s core themes? “East is at once a celebration and critique of the performance of masculinity. Berkoff acted in the film of Anthony Burgess’ A Clockwork Orange just before he wrote the play, and the language is certainly reminiscent of the film, with the same extreme metaphoric pressure, kinetic energy […]

Monthly Social – Save The Date

Many members have expressed in recent months the loss of our social hub: the SLT Bar. Many of us miss being able to catch up with old friends, see who needs help on upcoming productions and generally setting the world to rights over a beer or a glass of wine. BarCom and GC have been working to secure a venue local to West Norwood so that we can have a monthly social in a private room or area of a bar, giving […]

When We Are Married

8pm, March 15-19 Three respectable Victorian couples, all old friends who married on the same day in the same chapel, come together to celebrate their silver anniversaries. But to their horror they discover they were never legally married at all, forcing a complete reappraisal of their marriages – to make things worse their distress and upset is all played out in front of the unblinking lens of a local photographer. Behind the Scenes

The South London Theatre is one of the most friendly amateur/ repertory theatres in London. More than twenty shows a year says it all! We are currently not in our usual venue in West Norwood, but have been re housed in Stanley Halls, South Norwood, for at least the next couple of years. It’s an amazing historically interesting venue. Two excellent theatre spaces. However, we have a bit of a dilemma, many new comers who visit our site, are only […]

Security at the Old Fire Station

Those of you based in West Norwood will have seen that the Old Fire Station is now currently being protected by Camelot Security Services. SLT decided to use Camelot’s services after an incident when the theatre was broken into last year. The break-in was discovered by Bryon Fear & Charlotte Benstead on the morning of December 1st, when Bryon realised he could not gain access to the building. They alerted the police immediately who responded swiftly and arrested the intruders within […]
