Preview: Abandoman

Our regular Good Ship Comedy host Ben Van der Velde introduces Abandoman, the opening act at SLT on 10 October for the ChooSE27 comedy festival which runs until 17 October in various venues right here in West Norwood.
It's safe to say that we're kicking of this year's ChooSE27 Comedy Festival with the most unique and astonishing act we've every welcomed to the SLT.
Rob Broderick - aka Abandoman - is a phenomenon. For over a decade he has taken the roof off every room he has played around the world with his improvised freestyle hip-hop comedy. It's one thing to freestyle like the best MCs, but quite another to pack your rapping full of punchlines. Whether narrating tales of how couples met, planning a mega-party or simply searching through the contents of audience members pockets for inspiration, Rob produces the most original and hilarious performance.
My abiding memory of Rob was when he won the Hackney Empire new act competition years ago. He came on stage and said "we do Irish improvised rap" and the man sitting next to me scoffed "this is going to be rubbish." Ten minutes later he joined the other thousand members of the crowd in a standing ovation.
Abandoman is that good. Make sure you don't miss out. The SLT has never seen anything like it!
