Spring/Summer 2027 submissions window is open!

31 May 26

Script submissions window now open for January - July 2027

Don’t forget – help shape our 60th anniversary year!

We’re now accepting submissions for shows to form part of our diamond anniversary 2027 season. Is there anything you’d love to put on? Maybe revisit a show we’ve done before, or something new that you feel represents where we are now?

Fill in the expression of interest form here.

The submissions window will be open until midnight on Friday 10 July, but do please help us by not leaving it until the last minute! Our submissions are director-led, so any play sent to us for consideration must be submitted by the director, or at least have a director already attached in the case of original writing.

February to July/early August slots will be available, including the Summer Show, which usually runs for 9 or 10 performances including matinees, and should be family-oriented.

We’re delighted that 2027 will be South London Theatre’s 60th anniversary. To celebrate this, we are looking for a number of productions and events to celebrate this occasion. In terms of theatrical productions, this will probably amount to about three or four plays, spread through the year. For these, we will be looking for plays that are either in some way special to SLT or are just great plays that have been performed before but somehow reflect the years that the theatre has been operating.

We’re also keen to plan some one-off events as part of the celebrations. Could you help put something together? Open mic nights, walking tours, training masterclasses, family events, play readings? We’re open to your suggestions!

Email theatrecommittee@southlondontheatre.co.uk with your idea, or if you would like more detailed guidance on what we’re looking for.

The following websites hold the rights to many published plays and they license on behalf of the playwrights and their agents. These sites give you a good sense of what is currently available for performance rights. We apply for rights once a play has been selected so even if your play is chosen, please be aware it doesn’t guarantee that we will get permission to perform it. So if your first choice isn’t available, it’s a good idea to have a back-up plan.

We always look for a mix of comedy, drama and mixed cast sizes. We would love to showcase more work by under-represented groups to help us create more diversity on stage. We’re also interested to see new writing that might suit a shorter run than the usual 5/6 performances.

Here is the form to compete if you want to submit a play.  Please take care to complete it in full, and we ask you for your availability, so do bear your timing in mind. (The audition process will begin in September/October for the first show in February, for example.) You also need to consider our standard rehearsal pattern, which is Tues & Thurs evenings + Sunday early afternoons, or Wed & Fri evenings + late Sunday afternoons. For most shows this is over 10 weeks, including run-up week.

Please make sure you have either a hard copy or a pdf of the script to submit to Theatre Committee at the same time as your form. Remember – the deadline is 10 July.

If you any questions, please email theatrecommittee@southlondontheatre.co.uk We’re looking forward to hearing from you! We’re planning to announce the autumn/winter season in the Members’ Bar in late August – full details to be confirmed nearer the time.
