Stones in his Pockets

8pm, April 5-9 Stones In His Pockets tells the hilarious and poignant story of an American historical blockbuster filming in rural Ireland, through the eyes of two of the locals employed as extras. Charlie Conlon and Jake Quinn, like most of the rest of the village, are delighted that the Hollywood gravy train has pulled up – bringing the likes of stars Caroline Giovanni and Kurt Steiner as well as a handsome daily pay packet. Charlie has written a film […]

2016, Full Season Announced

SLT’s Theatre Committee are thrilled to reveal the rest of the South London Theatre’s exciting 2016 Season. This year’s season has been a tricky one to finalise. Rights to some directors’ first choice plays were unavailable which is a common and a difficult part of the selection process. Creating a season that is full of variety which includes a mix of genres with classic and contemporary texts that offer opportunities for a wide demographic of actors is a challenging balancing act, but SLT’s Theatre Committee have managed to do just […]

The Old Fire Station – Update on building works, February 2016

Tenders were received from five contractors. The lowest price was in excess of the HLF budget and although differences are usual, this was much larger than expected and has taken time to resolve. The best price was from William Anelay Ltd of York who have been designated preferred contractor for the project with the HLF’s approval. Our architects, Thomas Ford and Partners, and project manager have gone through the process of “Value Engineering” with William Anelay Ltd to negotiate costs […]

Berkoff’s East, A Director’s View

Director Kelly-Kim Cranstoun talks about her SLT directorial debut East. Set in the East End in the late 1960s, the play features the London of Berkoff’s own adolescence. What are the play’s core themes? “East is at once a celebration and critique of the performance of masculinity. Berkoff acted in the film of Anthony Burgess’ A Clockwork Orange just before he wrote the play, and the language is certainly reminiscent of the film, with the same extreme metaphoric pressure, kinetic energy […]

Monthly Social – Save The Date

Many members have expressed in recent months the loss of our social hub: the SLT Bar. Many of us miss being able to catch up with old friends, see who needs help on upcoming productions and generally setting the world to rights over a beer or a glass of wine. BarCom and GC have been working to secure a venue local to West Norwood so that we can have a monthly social in a private room or area of a bar, giving […]
